One way or another, we all find ourselves procrastinating and not wanting to do the things we’ve listed on our to-do list. So, in this episode, Izabela and I will share tips on how you can stop procrastinating and finally get things done.
Go For A Long Walk
One of the things that I do whenever I find myself procrastinating is to switch off, stop and go for a long walk on the island. I don’t try to break through that wall of procrastination and fight with myself. Try to do something totally different for an hour or two, and then come back to your task with a refreshed mind.
Make A To-Do List
Physically writing things down will really help you get things done. Izabela uses a page-a-day diary, where she writes everything she needs to accomplish for the day. She puts the most important things and the hardest bits at the top and prioritises them. The key here is to ignore all distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Ban Yourself From Distraction
One of the ways I procrastinate is by always checking my social media sites such as Google+, Foursquare and many others. Izabela and I think that tools such as the Self Control App (which bans you from accessing websites for a determined period of time) will really help you finish a task.
Another tip from me is the Pomodoro Technique. ‘Pomodoro’ is the Italian word for tomato. I have tried this method before and it has worked for me for quite some time. The method works by giving you 25 minutes to work on a task, and after that you get a 5-minute break that you can use as a breather. After the break, you’ll get another 25 minutes to continue with your task (or start a new one).
Weekly Planner from Michael Hyatt
Izabela started a weekly calendar planner which she heard about on Michael Hyatt’s podcast, which would really help you see your tasks and eliminate the things you don’t really need to do. Instead of doing it yourself, you can delegate this to someone else, which saves you time and allows you to focus on much more important tasks.
Keep Yourself Accountable
Whether it is a business partner, spouse, friend or someone online, it is best to make yourself accountable to another person. Attending local meet-ups and mastermind groups works really well for Izabela and I. Surrounding yourself with people who hold you accountable will help you to get things done.
